SOBOP works to reduce infant mortality and its underlying causes within
the African-American community through a wide-ranging community-based
effort. We make certain that at-risk pregnant and parenting African-American
women and their infants have access to quality maternal and child health
services. SOBOP is a grassroots program designed to decrease infant mortality
through outreach and education. Case management
is individualized for each family and continues until the child reaches
the age of two.
Healthy Start Initiative
SOBOP works closely with the Tulsa Health Department as a partner in the
Healthy Start Initiative. Our Healthy Start staff visits clients weekly
providing door-to-door information and resources for mothers and fathers
in
low-income communities. Healthy Start rovides individual case management
to increase the rate of entry into first trimester pregnancy care; decrease
the rate of unintended pregnancies; increase the utilization of medical
services by women, infants, and children; and increase the rate of complete
immunization of children by two years of age.
